Sci-Fi Comedy

Chilling Effect by Valerie Valdes

Imagine living in a world where space travel is almost as easy as taking a bus. Then imagine a world where corruption and bureaucracy still exist and suck. Great! You are now in the book’s setting. This is a comedic science fiction book about one captain who is trying to do legal work. She is trying to leave behind her life of crime and go down the straight and narrow. But life has a way of catching up to us all. Her sister is kidnapped by a shady organization. She has to do some not-so-legal jobs. She is trying to not act on her feelings for her alien engineer. Also, she has psychic cats now? This is a great read for people who love the comedy in Star Trek.

Romantic Comedy

I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com by Kimberly Lemming

This is my third Kimberly Lemming book, and it is by far my favorite! A woman who studies animals is nearly mauled by a lion, abducted by aliens, and falls in love. Wow! The main character is better than me because I would have laid down and passed away. She ventures into the jungle and finds a kind of hot alien guy who tries to take care of her. This book combines education with silliness and sexiness. And there is a throuple! I really enjoyed her excitement over the animals on this strange planet. This is a must-read if you want a fun romp.

Loving Non-Fiction

All About Love by bell hooks

It’s all about love, baby! You should make loving people and life central. This book was amazing. I know that there was a trend where lesbians bought this book to seem cool, but this is actually an insightful book. I have little interest in romantic relationships, and this book made me feel seen. bell hooks talks about her relationship with love and neglecting love in her life. The book also delves into the importance of showing love in non-romantic relationships. After reading this book, I decided to send my friends homemade gifts and letters to let them know that I love them. Please read this book! It is lovely (pun intended).
